Leaf Ray was in Cincinnati Oho this weekend for our 2nd weekend of MIHA.
First game up Saturday afternoon was against Indy Inline. The team started off a little slow with an 2-0 lead but quickly escalated as Indy's short bench couldn't keep up with Leaf Rays deep roster. Final score was 8-0. Leaf Ray then drew Buffalo Fusion. Leaf Rays special teams is what stood out in this one with 3 powerplay goals, 1 short handled goal, and the penalty kill was 100%. Final score was 7-2.
For playoff Sunday, Leaf Ray was the #1 seed and got matched up against the winner of the quarter final game between #5 Indy Inline and #4 Buffalo Fusion. It started out close with a Leaf Ray 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. However the tired Buffalo team was no match for Leaf Rays deep bench and dominating special teams. Leaf Ray went 100% on the PP (2/2) and PK (1/1). Final score was 10-2.
The championship game was a chess battle the first period with the Columbus Heat getting the only goal. The 2nd period was pretty even with the exception of a 3 minute shift that the Heat put 4 goals up. Leaf Ray dominated the 3rd period but just couldn't overcome the deficit in the 4-7 loss finishing the tournament with another silver medal.
Leaf Ray came into the weekend ranked 5th and finished the weekend being the top ranked team. #1 out of 23 teams with a 5-2-1 record.
