Leaf Ray was in Chicago this weekend for our final regular season weekend of MIHA. Leaf Ray came into the weekend in ranked 2nd while Detroit Revolution came in ranked 3rd. All other teams are outside of the top 10.
First game up Saturday morning was against Chicago Mary Pats. Leaf Ray came out a little slow as Mary Pats lead most of the game. Leaf Ray put up 5 goals in the third period to secure the come back win by a score of 8-6.
The next game was #2 Leaf Ray against #3 Detroit Revolution. Leaf Ray started strong having a 4-5 goal lead most of the game before letting the Revolution back in the game for a final score of 8-5.
Sunday afternoon in the tournament semi-finals Leaf Ray got matched up against Chi-Town Shamrocks. The game was 2-2 after the first period. However Leaf Ray continued to wear down the Shamrocks pulling further and further ahead in the final two periods. Final score was 8-2.
It was no surprised that the top two ranked teams would meet again in the championship game. Leaf Ray against Detroit Revolution. Leaf Ray started things slow trailing 0-1 at the end of the first. Leaf Ray's Shepherd and Coltrain each picked up a goal in the 2nd period but a late tying goal by the Revolution put the teams tied 2-2 going into the third. Leaf Rays Fowler and Denum each put one in the net early in the third to take the lead. Shepherd's empty net goal secured the 5-2 win and tournament championship.
While the team has done very well all season, this was the first tournament championship of the season. The team has moved back into the first rank in the league. Also the team has secured a spot in the MIHA League Finals tournament in Detroit on 5/18-5/19.
