Leaf Ray was in Chicago this weekend for our opening weekend of MIHA. Leaf Ray came into the weekend in 20th place with no games played while several teams have already played several games. All teams Leaf Ray played were in the top half of the league.
First game up was Saturday night against Indy Inline Hockey Club. Leaf Ray started the game strong with an early 2-0 lead but ran out of stamina losing 2-6. Next game was against a team Leaf Ray knows very well, Cincinnati Rollerdactyls. Again leaf Ray started out strong with an early 2-0 lead which started to fizzle out before Leaf Ray picked it back up to hold on to the lead winning 6-3.
Leaf Ray got matched up against Chi-Town Shamrocks (3-3) for playoff Sunday. It was a back and forth game. With less than a minute left in the game Leaf Ray pulled their goalie and Michael Corder buried the game tying goal sending it to overtime. The game ended with a Leaf Ray powerplay goal in Overtime sending the team onto the championship game.
The championship game was no matchup with a tired Leaf Ray team going up against the Windy City Pigeons with a very deep bench. Pigeons took the 1-6 win. Overall we are not disappointed with the 2nd place finish.
