Des Moines Leaf Ray plays in the Semi-Pro level of PIHA (Professional Inline Hockey Association). The team started back in the 2017-2018 season playing 4 seasons before taking a short break. The 2024-2025 season marks 5 season in the league.
Based upon how the team has done in the past seasons, we expected the team to win 75% of their games and win the division. Once we started the season, we realized that was going to be a tough goal.
The first weekend the team played 8 games finishing the weekend 4-3-1. The 2nd weekend the team finished 2-4-0. The final weekend the team went 2-2-2 for a season record of 8-9-3 and the 3rd seed in the playoffs.
For the playoffs, the team was a little short with two late drops. First series up was against rival Littleton Fire who Leaf Ray went 0-4 against during the season. Leaf Ray took game 1 5-4 in overtime and dominated game 2 7-2 to move on to the division championship. Leaf Ray got paired up against the Mile High Blizzard who took the division. Leaf Ray finished as the Rocky Mountain Division Runner-Up.
We already have some plans on what needs to change for next season and how we can perform better. Keep an eye out for the progress of this team.
